This hands-on workshop, developed by the Merrithew® team, outlines the importance of postural analysis in programming STOTT PILATES® workouts. Discuss the differences between static and dynamic posture and consider how each affects exercise choices and modifications necessary. Review postural theory relating to the effect of certain postures on muscle length and strength and actively practice postural analysis.

Learning objectives

  1. Review the steps in conducting a formal postural analysis

  2. Learn how to identify muscular imbalances as they relate to faulty posture

  3. Practice locating bony landmarks and palpating structures

  4. Understand how postural issues play into exercise programming

Explore the benefits of working on the Reformer for the older adult in this interactive workshop, developed by the Merrithew® team. Despite decrements associated with aging, the ability to adapt to endurance and strength training is well documented. The Reformer provides widely variable spring tensions to address both upper and lower body as well as core training. Modifications of exercises and considerations for limited mobility and strength issues are discussed with a view to enhance core stability, increase lean muscle mass, increase range of motion and improve body awareness.

Learning objectives

  1. Apply the STOTT PILATES® Principles of stabilization to select Reformer exercises

  2. Understand how movements may need to be modified for older adults

  3. Discover why STOTT PILATES exercise is beneficial in cases of restricted mobility

  4. Learn cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness

Bring more power and control to your golf game with the new Conditioning for Golf & Rotational Power on the Reformer, a workshop developed by the programming team at Merrithew®. Based on warmup and conditioning drills used by the world’s top golf pros, this program uses the spring resistance of the Reformer to increase mobility, build stability and improve the overall swing. Learn how to harness the power of the breath to bring focus and connection, improve range of motion in the shoulders and hips, and develop greater torso rotation – all major components of an outstanding swing. Through analysis of the biomechanics of each aspect of the swing, bring awareness to the neuromuscular, skeletal and fascial systems and how they work together to create greater power and distance. The moving platform of the Reformer challenges balance and stability resulting in optimal efficiency both on and off the course.

Learning objectives

  1. Apply the STOTT PILATES Principles to modified exercises on the Reformer.

  2. Explore specific exercises designed for golf conditioning, including a standing warmup.

This two-day online course progresses to more advanced material, providing further options and challenges on the Mat for highly conditioned clients. The Advanced Matwork (Level 2) 6 hour course begins with a review of relevant Essential and Intermediate exercises, then students learn to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles to exercises that require a higher degree of strength, balance and coordination. Great skills to add to your Pilates instructor toolkit in order to tailor workouts to meet your athletic client’s physical goals.

This two-day online course progresses to more advanced material, providing further options and challenges on the Mat for highly conditioned clients. The Advanced Matwork (Level 2) 6 hour course begins with a review of relevant Essential and Intermediate exercises, then students learn to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles to exercises that require a higher degree of strength, balance and coordination. Great skills to add to your Pilates instructor toolkit in order to tailor workouts to meet your athletic client’s physical goals.

This two-day online course progresses to more advanced material, providing further options and challenges on the Mat for highly conditioned clients. The Advanced Matwork (Level 2) 6 hour course begins with a review of relevant Essential and Intermediate exercises, then students learn to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles to exercises that require a higher degree of strength, balance and coordination. Great skills to add to your Pilates instructor toolkit in order to tailor workouts to meet your athletic client’s physical goals.

Bring more power and control to your golf game with the new Conditioning for Golf & Rotational Power on the Reformer, a workshop developed by the programming team at Merrithew®. Based on warmup and conditioning drills used by the world’s top golf pros, this program uses the spring resistance of the Reformer to increase mobility, build stability and improve the overall swing. Learn how to harness the power of the breath to bring focus and connection, improve range of motion in the shoulders and hips, and develop greater torso rotation – all major components of an outstanding swing. Through analysis of the biomechanics of each aspect of the swing, bring awareness to the neuromuscular, skeletal and fascial systems and how they work together to create greater power and distance. The moving platform of the Reformer challenges balance and stability resulting in optimal efficiency both on and off the course.

Explore the benefits of working on the Reformer for the older adult in this interactive workshop, developed by the Merrithew® team. Despite decrements associated with aging, the ability to adapt to endurance and strength training is well documented. Total Barre™ Instructor Foundation Course

The Total Barre™ Foundation Course provides the groundwork education for Instructors, enabling them to produce safe, effective and varied barre training programs that address the needs and goals of every client. The Course presents 11 specially arranged and selected segments – accompanied by timed selections of music – that serve as the template for each session or class and produce a balanced and complete barre workout. Participants are also introduced to the Total Barre™ Principles.

The dynamic Total Barre™ program is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, or for those who want to learn how. Instructors looking to bring music-inspired movement to their clients will love the 11 specially arranged and selected segments that serve as the template for each session or class.

Segments are accompanied by timed selections of music, each at a designated pace and focus on individual areas of the body or movement type. After completing this program students will be prepared to teach the repertoire safely, effectively and with confidence.

Our Total Barre™ program provides a balanced and thorough blend of theory, observation and practical experience to help you master the repertoire.

  • This course has no pre-requisites for attendance.

  • All students who complete the Foundation Course are entitled to an internationally certified qualification as a Total Barre™ Instructor.

  • There are no royalty payment requirements or restriction of trade regarding areas where Total Barre™ can be taught.

  • The Total Barre™ Foundation Course will include a template, choreography, music suggestions and lots of ideas to extend the program within your studio or clinic – we encourage your own creativity to complete the Total Barre™ template.

  • Students will receive a world class large manual, online training support, access to logos & imagery and ongoing support from head office in Canada as well as local support from the Instructor Trainer in New Zealand.

Most women are able to return to exercise four to six weeks after a regular birth or when they get clearance from their physician. Total Barre™ Instructor Foundation Course

The Total Barre™ Foundation Course provides the groundwork education for Instructors, enabling them to produce safe, effective and varied barre training programs that address the needs and goals of every client. The Course presents 11 specially arranged and selected segments – accompanied by timed selections of music – that serve as the template for each session or class and produce a balanced and complete barre workout. Participants are also introduced to the Total Barre™ Principles.

The dynamic Total Barre™ program is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, or for those who want to learn how. Instructors looking to bring music-inspired movement to their clients will love the 11 specially arranged and selected segments that serve as the template for each session or class.

Segments are accompanied by timed selections of music, each at a designated pace and focus on individual areas of the body or movement type. After completing this program students will be prepared to teach the repertoire safely, effectively and with confidence.

Our Total Barre™ program provides a balanced and thorough blend of theory, observation and practical experience to help you master the repertoire.

  • This course has no pre-requisites for attendance.

  • All students who complete the Foundation Course are entitled to an internationally certified qualification as a Total Barre™ Instructor.

This interactive seminar, developed by the Merrithew® team, draws upon the most current medical information, exercise guidelines and research available on pregnancy and movement. Appropriate STOTT PILATES® Matwork exercise adaptations are explored and programming concepts for teaching small groups and private clients are discussed. Anatomical and physiological changes, risk factors and movement considerations are also discussed with an eye to providing a safe and effective workout throughout all trimesters and provide strategies for building new pre-natal programs as well as enhancing those already in progress.

Learning objectives

  1. Understand appropriateness of STOTT PILATES Matwork as well as possible contraindications during pregnancy

Statistically, more than half of the adult population will experience lower back pain, either acute or ongoing, at some point in their lives. Mat-based Pilates exercises can be a valuable tool in the prevention and care of lower back problems. Developed by the Merrithew® programming team in keeping with current research, this workshop focuses on exercise modifications that can be beneficial in a number of circumstances. Major focus is placed on creating awareness and endurance of the local stabilizers of the lumbar spine and pelvic region. Although individual injuries are not covered, generalizations for specific exercise prescriptions are reviewed as a foundation for program development. Exercise choices for the prevention of back injuries and scope of practice concerns are also discussed.

Learning objectives

  1. Learn why and how STOTT PILATES® exercise can be beneficial for back problems

Fitness and Pilates Instructors meet a variety of clients who are restricted in their movements for a variety of reasons. Often, spinal flexion is contraindicated due to some specified concern. Learn how to modify Pilates exercises in a range of intensity levels to create workouts that achieve the primary goal of limiting spinal flexion while providing an effective full-body workout. Small handweights, Stability Cushions and the Flex-Band® exerciser are used to increase upper body resistance while further challenging the stability of the torso in a neutral alignment.

Learning objectives

  1. Discuss how the STOTT PILATES® Principles apply when movement is restricted

  2. Discover how to create a challenging workout without altering spinal alignment

  3. Learn to incorporate small handweights in a full flexion-free workout

  4. Explore exercise modifications in order to keep the workout safe
